The CAT South Regional Group was originally set up to represent the South of England for CAT Psychotherapists, Supervisors, Practitioners, and Trainees interested in CAT practice.

This region includes Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Surrey, Sussex, and Kent.

Established in 2011, CAT South set out to provide high-quality CPD training events several times a year, fostering new learning, lively exchanges of ideas, and networking. It's aim was to balance teaching and experiential sessions with relevant CAT practice topics in the NHS and other settings.

CAT South organised around 10 successful CPD events with past topics including; CAT in Groups, CAT and Narcissism, Time in CAT, and the Use of Creative Arts in CAT. However, unfortunately CAT South has been dormant since 2018 with no one taking up the reins.

We aim to revitalise the CAT South Regional Group and believe this is an ideal moment to accomplish it by utilising our dynamic online platform at Learn with CATO.

This attunes with our goal of making CAT more accessible to Health and Social Care Professionals by integrating our clinical experience and strong relational values with contemporary delivery methods.

We want to offer a supportive space for CAT therapists to connect, share insights, and enhance their practice. Our goal is to create a vibrant CAT South community that supports each other and enhances the local mental health landscape, ultimately benefiting our clients and the broader community.

By joining the CAT South Regional Group, you'll gain access to our exclusive online platform, which includes:

General Discussion Forum

Accessible to all members of the CAT South Regional Group, this is a space where you can pose questions to other CAT therapists for assistance or search for new resources.

Action Learning Sets

Offered monthly to qualified CAT Therapists, we will provide an action learning set, similar to peer supervision. Therapists can present a complex case or situation for which they seek support, while also enhancing the group's collective learning (with attendance counting towards your CPD requirements). Patient confidentiality will be maintained by anonymising any identifiable information.

CAT South: CPD and Events

We will host one free online CPD event per year, and One discounted in-person CPD event annually for CAT South members. We will also host a bi-monthly journal club, featuring a pre-published reading list with corresponding dates, allowing you to select and participate in discussions on topics that interest you.

All future online CPD events organised by CAT South will also be recorded and available to members for free via the platform.

Local Referral Networking

We will offer a space for local therapists in private practice to establish reciprocal connections with each other and improve the experience of clients looking specifically for CAT therapy in the community.

Creativity & Accountability Connections

Turning an idea into reality can be challenging! This area is for CAT South members who wish to do more but would benefit from a buddy (or two) to launch their idea.

You will also qualify for special promotional discounts on Learn with CATO online & on-demand CPD modules.

By joining the CAT South Regional Group, you will gain access to an exclusive online platform featuring a discussion forum for collaboration, monthly Action Learning Sets for qualified therapists, and CPD events. Included in this is one free online CPD event per year and at least one discounted in-person CPD event annually, along with access to a free bi-monthly journal club. Plus the various other benefits outlined above.

As you can imagine, there is a lot that goes into curating a space like this and keeping it running and active. We want the Community to be successful in the long term and to avoid falling dormant again, while also ensuring good value and low costs for all members. Therefore, we propose that your CAT South community access will cost just £7 per month, or you can opt for a discounted annual rate of £80.

CAT Practitioner Trainees can also become members at a discounted rate of £30 a year, which provides access to all resources except the Action Learning Sets, available only to full ACAT members. Instead, Trainees throughout the South of England will have a dedicated forum for receiving valuable mutual support while undertaking their training.

We look forward to seeing the amazing things you'll accomplish as part of our community!

With best wishes,

Hayden Stothard and Dawn Bagwell-Cox
